The main difference between light roast, medium roast and dark roast coffee is the degree of roast, which affects the flavor and caffeine content of the coffee.

Light roast coffee

Roasted for the shortest period of time, which results in a very light color and a delicate flavor. The coffee retains most of its origin flavor characteristics, it has a higher acidity and bright fruity, floral or citrusy notes. Light roast also has a higher caffeine content than darker roasts.

Medium roast

Coffee is roasted for a medium period of time, which results in a medium color and a balanced flavor. The coffee retains some of its origin flavor characteristics, it has a medium acidity and a good balance of acidity, sweetness and body. Medium roast also has a medium caffeine content.

Dark roast coffee

On the other hand, is roasted for the longest period of time, which results in a dark color and a strong, bold flavor. The coffee has a less acidity, it has a more full-bodied and smoky taste, and the origin flavors are less pronounced. Dark roast also has the least caffeine content compared to the other two.

In summary, light roast coffee is light in color, delicate in flavor and higher in caffeine, medium roast coffee is medium in color, balanced in flavor, and has a medium caffeine content, while dark roast coffee is dark in color, strong in flavor, and lower in caffeine.
