Meet Sean — The Story Behind FireWatch

Sean Spencer · Founder of FireWatch Coffee

The person behind
the purpose.

I’m Sean. An Army veteran, the founder of FireWatch Coffee, and someone who believes we should keep looking out for one another long after the uniform comes off.

FireWatch brings together good coffee, an ongoing commitment to the military community, and a simple invitation: make time for connection.

The foundation

A commitment beyond the uniform.

My connection to this mission begins with my time in the Army. I enjoyed my military service, including my time overseas in Korea. I’m proud of that chapter of my life, and I’m proud of the service members who continue to do the work today.

That connection has continued through more than 20 years supporting the military warfighter. My respect is for the people behind the uniform: the individuals who show up, carry responsibility, work together, and do what is asked of them. Their effort deserves to be recognized, even when it happens far from public attention.

When I talk about military life, I want to make room for the pride and the difficult parts. I can value my own experience and still speak honestly about the struggles I saw around me. Both are part of why I started FireWatch Coffee.

Why the mission

Keep the conversation going.

During my military years, I saw people struggle with depression. I also saw lives lost to suicide. Those experiences are part of why veteran mental health is personal to me, and why I want this company to have a purpose that people can understand.

I don’t share that to speak for anyone else or tell another person’s private story. I share it because those lives mattered. The people who struggle deserve to be seen and heard, and the people we have lost deserve to be remembered with dignity.

Enjoying military service does not erase those experiences. Being proud of our service members also means caring about how they are doing. That care should continue when someone leaves the military, changes direction, or is having a hard time finding their place.

The need for understanding, support, and community continues long after the uniform comes off.

FireWatch gives me a way to keep that concern visible. Through The Fire Watch, we share awareness and support resources and encourage people to stay connected. A conversation can be a starting point, and professional support has an important place. Coffee is simply a familiar reason to pause and make time for one another.

I want people to know they are welcome here without having to explain everything they have been through. Every veteran has an individual story, and none of us should assume that we already know it.

Beyond the everyday

Travel, perspective, and the people along the way.

My travels are another part of my story. Time spent away from familiar surroundings, including my military service in Korea, belongs alongside the work and the mission when I think about the experiences that have shaped my life.

For me, travel is an invitation to stay curious: to notice a different place, make room for another perspective, and appreciate the people along the way. I want that same openness to be part of FireWatch. You don’t have to share my background to share a conversation or feel welcome at the table.

Wherever life takes us, my pride in our service members remains. I respect what they do and the responsibilities they carry. The mission is a way to keep that appreciation present in the life I’m building now.

Behind the name

What it means to maintain the watch.

The name FireWatch comes from the military idea of staying alert and looking out for others while they rest. It carries a sense of responsibility: someone is paying attention, and the people around them matter.

I wanted that spirit to live in this company. In everyday life, maintaining the watch can be as simple as making a phone call, asking how someone is doing, or taking the time to hear the answer. It means keeping our military community in view and making connection an ongoing practice.

Those small actions give the name its meaning. They are something all of us can bring to our families, friendships, and communities.

An everyday invitation

Why coffee belongs in the story.

A cup of coffee fits into the moments when we pause: the beginning of a day, a break in a busy schedule, or time spent catching up with someone. That everyday ritual is at the heart of FireWatch.

I want people to find a brew they enjoy and a reason to slow down. Sometimes that means a quiet moment to recharge. Sometimes it means pulling up another chair and making room for a conversation.

Good coffee and a meaningful purpose can share the same table. That is the kind of company I’m building.
